Sara Ramirez has concluded their tenure on the Max spinoff series And Just Like That… At the close of Season 2, Che Diaz, portrayed by Ramirez, and Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) had parted ways permanently, each embarking on journeys into new relationships. A source with insight into the show’s production informed Deadline last month that Che’s narrative arc had wrapped up, indicating Ramirez’s absence from Season 3.

Che and Carrie Bradshaw have a strong friendship, so there’s a chance they might show up again later on. Max didn’t say anything about this in January or when asked for this story.

Earlier this year, the Daily Mail said Che was being written out because Ramirez supports Palestine on social media. But sources told Deadline that wasn’t true. Ramirez seemed to respond to the news with an Instagram post the next day, saying, “Don’t let the tabloids distract you from what’s happening in Gaza. Really nice try, though.”

Ramirez played Che in And Just Like That… for two seasons. Che is a non-binary stand-up comic, writer, and podcast producer who worked with Carrie as she switched from a newspaper columnist to a sex-advice podcaster. Che met Miranda through Carrie, and they hit it off right away. They had an affair, which led to Miranda splitting up with Steve and eventually divorcing him.

In Season 2, Miranda left her old life behind to be with Che in Los Angeles, where they worked on a pilot for a show starring Tony Danza as their dad. When that didn’t work out, they went back to the East Coast, but things fell apart between them. Che ended up without a job but found someone new while working at a vet clinic, wrapping up their storyline nicely.

Even though Che and Miranda didn’t end up together, Ramirez and Nixon are still great friends. Ramirez shared photos on Instagram of Nixon, who’s currently performing Off Broadway in The Seven Year Disappear by Jordan Seavey, directed by Scott Elliott.
