Disney+ continues anime expansion with global launch of “The Fable”

Disney+ has announced the release date for its latest addition to its expanding lineup of Japanese anime. “The Fable,” a thrilling hitman series adapted from the popular manga of the same name, is set to premiere worldwide on the streaming platform on 7th April. This unveiling marks another milestone in Disney’s collaboration with Kodansha, a renowned Japanese publishing giant known for iconic manga titles such as AKIRA, Attack on Titan, and Ghost in the Shell.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Luke Kang, Disney’s president of the Asia Pacific region, emphasized the surging global appeal of anime and reiterated Disney’s commitment to producing more content in this genre for the Japanese audience. While “The Fable” will also air on Nippon TV in Japan, Disney holds the exclusive streaming rights worldwide.

Originally penned and illustrated by Katsuhisa Minami, “The Fable” manga enjoyed widespread success during its serialization in Japan’s Weekly Young Magazine from 2014 to 2019, amassing millions of copies sold. Now, the animated adaptation is brought to life by Tezuka Productions under the direction of anime industry veteran Ryōsuke Takahashi.

The series follows the exploits of a legendary assassin known as “Fable,” who has honed his deadly skills to perfection. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when his crime family orders him to refrain from killing for an entire year. Relocated to Osaka and surrounded by dangerous adversaries, Fable must navigate the perils of ordinary life while keeping his lethal instincts in check to survive.

“The Fable” boasts an all-star cast of renowned voice actors from the anime industry, including Kazuyuki Okitsu as Fable/Akira Sato, Miyuki Sawashiro as Yoko Sato, and Kana Hanazawa as Misaki Shimizu, among others. Adapted for the screen by Yuya Takashima and Mayumi Morita, the series promises an enthralling blend of action, suspense, and intrigue for audiences worldwide.
