Lindsay Lohan, during Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, confirmed that a follow-up to the 2003 film Freaky Friday was in the works. “I won’t say that yet. I don’t want to say too much,” Lohan told the host after he asked if there was a timeline for production to start on the film.

She added, “We are both excited. I’m gonna speak for Jamie.”

Lohan and Curtis have expressed interest in starring in a sequel. In October 2022, Curtis was questioned on The View about reprising her role alongside Lohan, to which she responded that she was “creatively wide open” to the idea.

Curtis even imagined what the sequel could look like, saying, “Let me be the grandma, let me be the old grandma who switches places, so then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon.”

“I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world,” Curtis added.

“Freaky Friday” is based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, which tells the story of a mother and daughter who switch bodies after eating a magical Chinese fortune cookie. In the film, Curtis and Lohan portrayed the mother-daughter duo, with Harmon playing Curtis’ fiancé.

The 2003 film starring Lohan and Curtis was the third adaptation of the novel, following a 1976 version featuring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, and a 1995 television movie starring Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffmann. Disney Channel later adapted “Freaky Friday” into a musical movie in 2018, starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.
