Timothée Chalamet is gearing up to take on a new role, starring in and producing “Marty Supreme,” an original film by Josh Safdie and A24. Citing sources, Variety reported, “Marty Supreme” is a fictional story inspired by the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman.
Written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, the film will be produced by Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas. This project marks a reunion for Safdie and A24, who previously collaborated on “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time.”
A24 confirmed the collaboration via social media, announcing, “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon.” Reisman, a table tennis champion who passed away in 2012, had a storied career that began in Manhattan, where he hustled for bets and prize money. Over his lifetime, he won 22 major ping pong titles from 1946 to 2002 and earned five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. At the age of 67, he won the United States National Hardbat Championship, making him the oldest player to win a national competition in a racket sport. Known as the “wizard of table tennis,” Reisman even opened for the Harlem Globetrotters with his ping pong comedy routine.
Chalamet recently starred in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” and led the holiday hit “Wonka,” a musical prequel to Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” He has also wrapped filming on James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown,” portraying a young Bob Dylan.
Chalamet is represented by Brian Swardstrom and UTA, while Safdie is represented by WME, Jamie Feldman, and Lichter Grossman.
