Fresh off the success of Creed III, Michael B. Jordan is set to direct and star in a new remake of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline exclusive. This will mark Jordan’s second feature film as a director, following the global box office hit Creed III, which grossed $276.1 million worldwide.
Jordan has been eyeing the role of Thomas Crown since 2016, but now, in addition to acting, he’ll be taking the director’s chair and producing through his Outlier Society banner, alongside Elizabeth Raposo. Outlier Society currently holds a first-look film deal and an overall TV deal with Amazon MGM. The studio plans to give the film an exclusive theatrical release globally.
The Thomas Crown Affair dates back to the 1968 original, directed by Norman Jewison, where Steve McQueen played a charming millionaire who moonlighted as a bank robber, and Faye Dunaway portrayed the insurance investigator who falls for him as she tries to bring him down. A 1999 remake starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.
Drew Pearce, known for his work on The Fall Guy, has written the screenplay for this new iteration. Previous drafts were penned by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. Jordan will be joined by producers Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff, with Alan Trustman, the writer of the 1968 film, receiving executive producer credit.
Looking ahead, Jordan is also starring in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming untitled event film for Warner Bros., which is set to hit theaters on March 7, 2025.
