Netflix is set to debut The Helicopter Heist on 22nd November, a gripping true-crime series based on one of the most daring robberies in modern history. The series delves into the intricate planning and extraordinary nerve it took to pull off a heist that captivated the world. While staying true to the real-life event, the show imagines how the operation might have unfolded behind the scenes. The crime at the center of The Helicopter Heist took place on a seemingly ordinary September morning in 2009, when the eyes of the world turned to a Stockholm suburb. A helicopter landed on the roof of Sweden’s most secure cash depot, and in a swift, breathtaking operation, the robbers vanished with millions of dollars—without firing a single shot. The police could do little more than watch. The series is described as a character-driven and emotionally charged story that explores themes of brotherhood and fatherhood, while also serving as a high-stakes thriller about risking it all for a shot at fortune. The cast is led by Mahmut Suvakci, Ardalan Esmaili, and Iskra Kostic, with Dejan Milacic, Erik Svedberg-Zelman, Vic Carmen Sonne, Johanna Hedberg, and Wim Elfwencrona in supporting roles. The Helicopter Heist was written by Ronnie Sandahl and directed by conceptual director Daniél Espinosa, with Jonas Alexander Arnby and Anna Zachrisson also directing episodes. The series is produced by Johannes Åhlund for B-Reel Films. Based on Jonas Bonnier’s novel The Helicopter Heist, the eight-episode series is executive produced by Ulf Synnerholm, Ronnie Sandahl, Daniél Espinosa, Niclas Salomonsson, and Jonas Bonnier.
