After months of speculation, Ringo Starr has confirmed that Barry Keoghan is in the running to portray him in the upcoming Beatles film series directed by Sam Mendes, according to Deadline report. Starr, the iconic drummer of the legendary band, shared his thoughts with Entertainment Tonight, said, “I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.” First reported in February, the Beatles film series will consist of four interconnected theatrical releases, each told from the perspective of one band member. While no casting deals have been finalized, sources suggest that Paul Mescal is in talks to play Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson is a potential John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn may step into the role of George Harrison. Mendes is set to direct all four films for Sony, with production details still under wraps. This ambitious project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd., alongside McCartney, Starr, and the families of Lennon and Harrison, has authorized full rights to the Beatles’ life stories and music for a scripted film. Mendes, known for films like 1917 and Skyfall, will also produce via Neal Street Productions alongside Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor, with Jeff Jones executive producing for Apple Corps Ltd. Ringo Starr joined the Beatles in 1962, replacing Pete Best as drummer. His contributions to the band’s timeless hits include the rhythm on “Come Together” and “Ticket to Ride,” as well as lead vocals on fan favorites like “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends.” Post-Beatles, Starr enjoyed a thriving solo career and remains a celebrated figure in music. Barry Keoghan, known for his Oscar-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin, has been generating buzz with recent roles. He starred opposite Jacob Elordi in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and appeared in Andrea Arnold’s Bird, which premiered at Cannes. Represented by WME and B-Side Management, Keoghan’s addition to the Beatles project signals a casting lineup as star-studded as the band’s legacy itself. With Mendes’ vision and the Beatles’ unparalleled cultural impact, this film series is poised to offer a fresh perspective on the band that redefined music and storytelling.
