After seven years, three seasons and 26 episodes, HBO’s acclaimed teen drama Euphoria has officially come to an end. Series creator, writer and director Sam Levinson confirmed the news during an appearance on Popcast, the music podcast from The New York Times. HBO later confirmed that the third season finale, titled In God We Trust, serves as the show’s final episode, bringing the story to a close after one of television’s most talked-about runs. The announcement is no surprise for its longtime viewers as in a recent interviews, series star Zendaya had suggested that the drama would conclude with its third season. Speculation about the show’s future had persisted for years, particularly after the lengthy four-year gap between Seasons 2 and 3. During that hiatus, several cast members emerged as major Hollywood stars, taking on high-profile film projects that complicated scheduling and contributed to production delays. Reports of uncertainty surrounding a potential fourth season had circulated since 2024. First launched in 2019, Euphoria followed a group of teenagers grappling with addiction, identity, relationships, trauma and the pressures of modern life. According to the show’s official synopsis, the series centered on “a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship.” The third and final season shifted the narrative beyond high school through a significant time jump, exploring darker philosophical themes as the characters “wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption and the problem of evil.” Alongside Zendaya, the ensemble cast featured Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace and Colman Domingo. Over the course of its run, Euphoria became one of HBO’s defining modern dramas, earning critical acclaim, strong ratings and multiple awards while helping launch several of its young stars into global prominence.
