Prime Video Unveils First Look and Release Date for ‘The Greatest’ at ESSENCE Festival

Prime Video has announced that its upcoming scripted series The Greatest, based on the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, starring Jaalen Best in the title role, will premiere globally on 4 November, 2026.

The release date was unveiled during a special first-look presentation at the ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans, where attendees were also treated to the debut teaser for the highly anticipated series.

The event was moderated by ESPN and ABC News journalist Kelley Carter and featured creator, showrunner and executive producer Ben Watkins alongside series lead Jaalen Best, who portrays Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali. Cast members Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham and Michael Ealy also took part in the discussion, offering audiences an early look at the project and its journey to the screen.

Described as an intimate portrait of one of the most influential figures in sports and culture, The Greatest explores the life of Muhammad Ali beyond his achievements inside the boxing ring. The series examines the personal story of the heavyweight champion, humanitarian and global icon, while tracing the experiences that shaped his legacy.

The project is particularly significant as it marks the first authorized scripted television series based on Ali’s life. It is executive produced by Lonnie Ali, widow of the late boxing champion, and aims to provide unprecedented access to the story of Muhammad Ali, focusing not only on his victories and defeats but also on the man behind the legend.

The series is produced by Ben Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, alongside Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment—a Universal Music Group partner—and Grace: A Storytelling Company.

Watkins serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo; Authentic Brand Group executives Corey Salter, Marc Rosen and Matthew Gross; Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin and Owen Shiflett; Roc Nation; Michele Anthony, Boyd Muir and co-executive producer David Blackman for Polygram; Stefano Agosto, Executive Vice President of Television at Outlier Society; and Josh Wakely through Grace: A Storytelling Company.
