Noah Kahan headlined the inaugural edition of Stateside, Rolling Stone’s first-ever music festival to carry the magazine’s name, performing to a sold-out crowd in Kingston, New York, over the weekend. The event marked a significant milestone for the publication as it expands its presence in the live entertainment business, with around 4,000 fans attending the debut festival. For Kahan, the intimate performance served as a warm-up ahead of a much larger run of concerts. The singer-songwriter is set to perform four sold-out shows at Boston’s Fenway Park later this week, making the festival appearance a comparatively rare small-scale show. The Fourth of July event celebrated a lineup rooted in folk, Americana, rock and country music. Kahan closed the festival with a 75-minute headline set featuring fan favorites including Stick Season, Dial Drunk and Great Divide. Earlier in the day, rising singer-songwriter Gigi Perez performed on the main stage, although her set was shortened after a thunderstorm forced organizers to pause the festival for approximately 90 minutes before performances resumed. The festival also featured performances from Sydney Rose, Arcy Drive, Bo Staloch, Bebe Stockwell, H Ingram, Derby, Michaela Anne, Calder Allen and Devon Gilfillian. Stateside represents the latest step in Rolling Stone’s strategy to expand beyond its traditional print and digital publishing business by building additional revenue streams through live events. While this was the first festival to bear the Rolling Stone name, the company has already established a presence in the events space following its acquisition of Las Vegas music festival Life Is Beautiful in 2022. Kahan’s appearance also comes shortly after he featured as the cover star of Rolling Stone’s June issue, reflecting his continued rise as one of contemporary folk music’s biggest names. The festival performance adds to an already eventful year for the artist. In April, Kahan released his critically acclaimed fourth studio album, The Great Divide, and also debuted the Netflix documentary Noah Kahan: Out of Body, further cementing his growing profile both on stage and on screen.
