Janine Melnitz could be returning to the silver screen, Annie Potts hints. She starred in two of the Reitman Ghostbuster movies in the eighties. Melnitz acted as the assistant for the Ghostbuster crew doign their admin while they catch ghosts! She was also the love interest for both Louis Tully and Egon Spengler.
This sequel isn’t to be mistaken with the all female reboot of Ghostbusters in 2016. This will be a direct Jason Reitman sequel to the cult classics. Many of the original cast did reappear in the movie in short cameo performances but they didn’t reprise their original roles. However Reitman is returning to the original Bill Murray Ghostbusters universe. What’s more is that Annie isn’t the only major role who is teasing fans with her return. Sigourney Weaver hinted that she, Aykroyd and Bill Murray will be returning to the franchise.
There have been very few details revealed about the film or the characters themselves – similar to Marvel movies, Reitman is keen to keep the lead up to the film as spoiler-free as possible. Potts hasn’t said much herself aside from, “I have heard some things, if it’s true – what I’ve heard – yeah, I think it’s gonna happen, I think I will.”
Even though the film does promise to be a trip down memory lane for Ghostbusters fans, there will also be a new cast of faces trying their hand at being in the franchise. These include: Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), McKenna Grace (Captain Marvel) and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers).
Neither Rick Moranis nor Ernie Hudson have shown any sign of reprising their roles but fans can cross their fingers and hope!
