Acclaimed actor Colin Firth—known for his Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award-winning performances—is set to headline the upcoming limited event series ‘Lockerbie’. Firth, known for his iconic roles in ‘The King’s Speech,’ ‘A Single Man,’ and ‘The Staircase,’ will portray one of the key characters of Dr. Jim Swire, a figure synonymous with the quest for justice following the tragic 1988 Lockerbie disaster. The five-part series is a collaboration between Carnival Films, a division of Universal International Studios, and Sky Studios. The series promises to deliver a gripping narrative that delves into the aftermath of the devastating bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Dr. Jim Swire’s relentless pursuit of truth and accountability, alongside his wife Jane, will be at the heart of the storyline, offering viewers an intimate portrayal of their unwavering resolve in the face of unimaginable loss. The series has several talented people in its creative team, including David Harrower as the writer and Maryam Hamidi as guest writer. BAFTA Award-winning director Otto Bathurst will be the lead director of the series, alongside Jim Loach. With Colin Firth in the lead role, ‘Lockerbie’ is expected to present a powerful narrative on resilience and justice. The series is based on the book “The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice” by Jim Swire and Peter Biddulph, along with multiple other sources. On 21st December 1988, 259 passengers and crew were killed when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie 38 minutes after take-off, with a further 11 residents losing their life as the plane came down over the quiet, Scottish town. Production on the series will commence in early 2024. Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant are Executive Producers for Carnival Films. Sam Hoyle is the Executive Producer for Sky Studios. Other Executive Producers include David Harrower, Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan and Oskar Slingerland. Brian Kaczynski is Producer and Maryam Hamidi is also Associate Producer. Lockerbie will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and on Peacock in the US. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international sales of the series.
