Yash Raj Films on Friday announced the director’s name for its long-awaited female-led Spy Universe action film featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh. Shiv Rawail will be directing the YRF upcoming film. He is known for his work as an assistant director on blockbusters like Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhoom 3’. He made his directorial debut with YRF Entertainment’s Netflix series ‘The Railway Men’. The untitled film will see Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh playing the role of super agents. The YRF Spy Universe films kicked off with Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012) then followed by ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘War’ (2019). The recent additions to the franchise are Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, and Tiger 3 starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Now, the upcoming project is ‘War 2’ starring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr. and Kiara Advani under Ayan Mukerji’s direction. Pathaan is highest highest-grossing film in YRF’s Spy Universe as the film made Rs. 1060 crore worldwide gross along with Rs. 523 crore net in India. “Shiv‘s debut directorial for YRF, The Railway Men, is a humongous hit and he is the talk of the town today. He is young and has a brilliant pulse on what the youth would want to consume as entertainment as is evident with the global success that he has delivered under the guidance of Aditya Chopra. Thus, Adi is confident that he is the best director to helm the young female-led action entertainer from the YRF spy universe that stars Alia Bhatt in the lead with the rising star of the industry, Sharvari,” The Variety reported citing a trade source.
