Wesley Snipes sets two Guinness World Records with blade cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine”

Wesley Snipes has made headlines by breaking two Guinness World Records following his unexpected return as Blade in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” according to Variety report.

Guinness World Records confirmed that Snipes set the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character, with his comeback coming 25 years and 340 days after he first portrayed the half-vampire “daywalker” in 1998’s “Blade.” This achievement surpasses his co-star Hugh Jackman’s record, who first appeared as Wolverine 24 years ago in 2000’s “X-Men.”

Additionally, Snipes earned the record for the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films. His last portrayal of Blade was 19 years and 231 days ago in the 2004 film “Blade: Trinity,” overtaking Alfred Molina’s 17-year hiatus between playing Doc Ock in 2004’s “Spider-Man 2” and 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Snipes’ Blade was just one of many cameos in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. In the film, the vampire hunter teams up with Deadpool, Wolverine, Elektra (Jennifer Garner), X-23 (Dafne Keen), and Gambit (Channing Tatum) to take on Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and her mutant followers.

Released on July 26, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has already shattered multiple box office records. It earned $205 million in its opening weekend, ranking as the eighth-highest debut of all time and setting a new benchmark for the biggest R-rated opening weekend ever. Additionally, the film claimed the title of the biggest start of 2024, surpassing Disney’s Pixar sequel “Inside Out 2,” which had a $155 million debut. Currently, “Deadpool & Wolverine” stands as the second-highest-grossing domestic release of the year.
