India’s MovieVerse Studios, a division of IN10 Media Network, is making a bold foray into Tamil cinema with Rakkayie, a period-action drama starring Nayanthara. The project marks the directorial debut of Senthil Nallasamy and will be co-produced with Chennai-based Drumsticks Productions, known for films like Yaanai and Imaikkaa Nodigal. Nayanthara shared a powerful teaser of the film on Instagram to her 9.5 million followers, said, “In a land where justice is but a memory, there lived a mother whose world was her child. But when her daughter’s life is threatened by a monster. She does not flee… she does not falter. Instead, she declares war.” The production boasts an impressive technical crew, including composer Govind Vasantha, cinematographer Gautham Rajendran, and editor Praveen Antony. The film is set for a multi-language release across Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada markets. Aditya Pittie, managing director of IN10 Media Network, emphasized the studio’s focus on creating universal content. “Our aim has always been to engage in storytelling that transcends geographical boundaries. This film is a significant milestone in that direction, as we continue to solidify our commitment to producing world-class content in multiple languages.” Vivek Krishnani, CEO of MovieVerse Studios, praised the film’s potential, said,“Rakkayie is a film that has been carefully crafted to push boundaries. We are proud to be producing this film, bringing together the powerhouse talent of Nayanthara and a wonderfully crafted story that is steeped in cultural ethos and will connect with the masses.” Production is expected to begin soon, with the title teaser released on November 18 to mark Nayanthara’s birthday. The announcement of Rakkayie coincides with ongoing controversy surrounding Netflix’s documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The documentary, which premiered on 18 November, delves into the life of Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. It includes appearances from stars like Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, and Nagarjuna. In an open letter shared on Instagram on 16 November, the actress accused Dhanush of harboring personal grudges and criticized his refusal to grant permission for the footage, despite her team’s repeated efforts over two years. She revealed that Dhanush issued a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in damages for what he described as unauthorized use of behind-the-scenes footage. Nayanthara’s social media post read, “We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds) which were shot on our personal devices and that too BTS visuals that are already very much publicly present on social media and claimed a sum of Rs 10 crores as damages for the mere 3 seconds. This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans but clearly, you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.” The actress explained that the footage holds sentimental value, as it marks the beginning of her love story with her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, who directed Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
