Paramount+ has released exclusive images of Inglourious Basterds star Diane Kruger in its upcoming psychological drama Little Disasters, according to Deadline exclusive report. The six-part series, adapted from Sarah Vaughan’s novel, explores the dark complexities of motherhood and friendships, blending tension with relatable domestic settings. Kruger stars as Jess, a mother whose baby suffers a head injury under mysterious circumstances. Her best friend, Liz, played by Jo Joyner is the on-duty doctor who must make the heart-wrenching decision to involve social services. This single act triggers a cascade of events that tests relationships and unravels hidden truths. Director Eva Sigurdardottir praised Kruger’s nuanced performance, describing her as “an intelligent and dynamic actress, whose sheer presence brings with it a unique quality that leaves you inspired.” She added, “Attaching Diane allowed me to explore sides of Jess’ character in deeper ways than I had anticipated.” The story’s relatable yet harrowing conflict drew Sigurdardottir to the project. “I am a filmmaker who is drawn to brutally real and gritty stories, and here we had a glamorous and aspirational setting, yet with a terrifying central conflict – a hurt child,” she explained. The series features a strong ensemble cast, including Shelley Conn, Emily Taaffe, JJ Feild, Ben Bailey Smith, and Stephen Campbell Moore. Behind the scenes, the production team worked closely with Vaughan and professional advisors to ensure an accurate depiction of the sensitive topics explored in the book. “We consulted medical, police, and social service advisers who guided us with accuracy and sensitivity while understanding the need to tell a dramatic story,” said producer Marianna Abbotts. She noted that Vaughan’s knack for creating “professional women who are forced to make impossible decisions” makes Little Disasters a compelling and morally complex narrative. The series is produced by Roughcut Television, marking the company’s expansion into drama. Writers Ruth Fowler and Amanda Duke adapted Vaughan’s novel, with Ash Atalla, Alex Smith, and Abbotts serving as executive producers alongside Fremantle’s Simon Judd. Commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar for Paramount+ UK and Ireland, Little Disasters is slated to premiere next year, with Fremantle handling global sales.
