Netflix is focusing on Indonesian cinema with its upcoming exciting slate of new originals that are set to premiere this year, bringing a diverse mix of genres to its growing audience in the region. From its first Indonesian zombie film to a star-studded comedy-drama, the lineup reflects the streamer’s commitment to expanding local storytelling on a global scale.

Leading the new releases is The Actor (Lupa Daratan), a comedy-drama marking Netflix’s first collaboration with director and comedian Ernest Prakasa. The film follows an egotistical actor who is on the verge of landing a major biopic role when he unexpectedly loses his ability to act. Featuring Vino G. Bastian, Agus Kuncoro, and Dea Panendra, the film is set to bring both humor and introspection to audiences.

The platform is also diving into horror with The Elixir, Indonesia’s first Netflix-backed zombie film. Directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Kimo Stamboel, the film—originally titled Abadi Nan Jaya—centers around an ambitious herbal medicine company owner whose pursuit of a miraculous potion unleashes a devastating zombie outbreak. Starring Donny Damara, Mikha Tambayong, Eva Celia, Dimas Anggara, Kiki Narendra, and Marthino Lio, The Elixir adds to Netflix’s successful lineup of Asian zombie hits like All of Us Are Dead, #Alive, and Kingdom.

Indonesia has become a key priority in Netflix’s Southeast Asian strategy, even as the domestic content head role remains unfilled following Rusli Eddy’s departure in October. Malobika Banerji, Netflix’s Southeast Asia content head, is temporarily overseeing the role while also taking on the responsibilities of Thailand’s former content head, Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, who stepped down this week.

Adding to the upcoming slate is Losmen Bu Broto: The Series, an adaptation of the 2021 film of the same name. The show follows the Broto family as they run an inn in Yogyakarta, with tensions rising when the youngest child, feeling undervalued, tries to prove himself—only to find himself entangled in a complicated romance with an older, married guest. The series features Mathias Muchus, Maudy Koesnaedi, Baskara Mahendra, and Wulan Guritno.

Other highly anticipated Indonesian originals include The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, a romantic comedy starring Reza Rahadian and Sheila Dara Aisha; Promised Hearts (Setetes Embun Cinta Niyala); and A Normal Woman, a psychological drama directed by Lucky Kuswandi.

Expanding on the success of Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens, Netflix is also bringing Ratu-Ratu Queens, a series following four Indonesian immigrant women navigating life in Queens, New York. The show stars Nirina Zubir, Asri Welas, Happy Salma, and Tika Panggabean, promising a heartfelt look at resilience, identity, and finding home in unfamiliar places.

With this diverse lineup, Netflix is doubling down on its investment in Indonesian storytelling, offering everything from gripping horror and heartfelt dramas to sharp comedy and romance. As the streaming platform continues to expand its local productions, audiences can expect a wider range of Indonesian voices to reach screens worldwide.
