‘Dog Man’ movie release date unveiled by Universal

Dog Man, an animated feature adaptation of the acclaimed book series with the same name, was unveiled by Universal Pictures on Monday. The book series is written by author-illustrator Dav Pilkey, who has written Captain Underpants. Dog Man is slated to open wide on Friday, January 31, 2025.

The movie, previously on the release schedule as Untitled DreamWorks Animation Film, has no competitors yet on the release calendar, Deadline reported.

Emmy-winning director Peter Hastings (known for The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants) brings Dog Man to life with a captivating storyline. The tale kicks off when a dog and a police officer sustain injuries while on duty. Following a life-saving surgery, the course of history is altered with the birth of Dog Man: part dog, part man, wholly dedicated to protecting and serving—unless a squirrel crosses his path. Amidst his relentless pursuit of his arch-nemesis, the feline supervillain Petey the Cat, Dog Man’s focus is challenged by the unexpected appearance of Lil Petey, an adorable kitten clone of Petey. This arrival reshapes the dynamics between Dog Man and Petey, transforming the game for both adversaries.

Launched in 2016, the Dog Man Scholastic series currently consists of 11 books, with 12th entry Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder scheduled to hit the book stores in March. The series has been translated into 45 languages, and has sold more than 60 million copies in print.
