The Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is making her return to the silver screen with Josh Safdie’s upcoming film “Marty Supreme”. The Goop founder is set to star alongside Timothée Chalamet, which is Paltrow’s first on-screen movie role since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”. Details about Paltrow’s character in the film remain under wraps, and the plot of “Marty Supreme” has been kept tightly under lock and key. However, studio A24 hinted at the project by posting an image of a table tennis ball with the words “coming soon” following the initial news reported by Variety in July. Paltrow, who rose to fame in the 1990s with critically acclaimed performances in “Shakespeare in Love,” “Sliding Doors,” “Emma,” “Se7en,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “Proof,” and “The Royal Tenenbaums,” has been largely absent from the big screen in recent years. After her roles in the “Iron Man” and “Avengers” franchises, she shifted her focus to her lifestyle brand Goop, which she launched in 2008. In addition to her acting career, Paltrow has played a significant role in the #MeToo movement. She was a crucial source for The New York Times investigation into Harvey Weinstein and also contributed an uncredited voice role in the 2022 drama “She Said,” which chronicled the reporters who exposed the disgraced producer. “Marty Supreme” was penned by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, with the duo also serving as producers alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and Chalamet. Safdie, known for his work on “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time” with his brother Benny Safdie, is directing the film solo—his first solo directorial effort since 2008. Safdie recently directed Adam Sandler’s comedy special “Love You” for Netflix and is collaborating with Sandler on another film set in the world of sports memorabilia and baseball.
