Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 dashed to the top of the U.K. and Ireland box office with an impressive opening weekend haul of £11.7 million ($14.7 million), according to Comscore. Meanwhile, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King maintained its strong momentum in its second weekend, earning £4.2 million and raising its cumulative total to £12.6 million. Universal’s Wicked held firm in third place, adding £2.7 million in its sixth week for a remarkable total of £53 million. According to reports, Disney’s Moana 2 continued to perform well, earning £2.2 million in its fifth week and pushing its overall gross to £33.7 million. In fifth place, Better Man, the Robbie Williams biopic distributed by Entertainment Film Distributors, made a solid debut with £1.5 million, drawing in fans of the British pop icon. Other films rounded out the top ten, including Paddington in Peru, which added £819,038 in its eighth week, climbing to a total of over £33 million. Paramount’s Gladiator II earned £561,662 for a cumulative £30.3 million, while Black Bear’s Conclave took in £364,319, reaching £5.5 million after five weeks. Newcomer Baby John, a Bollywood release from Bakrania Media, opened at ninth place with £112,834, and Sony’s Kraven the Hunter added £87,631 for a three-week total of £1.4 million. As the first week of January 2025 begins, highly anticipated films are poised to enter the fray including Universal’s Nosferatu, a reimagining of the horror classic by Robert Eggers, is set to premiere on 1 January. It will be joined by Studiocanal’s romantic drama We Live In Time, featuring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, and Altitude Film Distribution’s sci-fi thriller 2073, directed by Asif Kapadia. Midweek releases include the Tamil-language drama Vanangaan from celebrated filmmaker Bala, and Dreamz Entertainment’s sports biopic Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and directed by Shankar Shanmugam. On January 3, Curzon will release Nickel Boys, based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, alongside the Polish action film Diabel, distributed by Magnetes Pictures.
