Emmy-winning Succession star Jeremy Strong is in talks to play Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network Part II, Aaron Sorkin’s anticipated follow-up to the 2010 Oscar-winning tech drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter exclusive report, if the deal goes through, Strong will take over the role made iconic by Jesse Eisenberg, who earned an Academy Award nomination for portraying the Facebook founder in the original film. The sequel will be written and directed by Sorkin, marking a major evolution from the first installment, which was helmed by David Fincher. Sorkin’s return promises another sharp, dialogue-driven exploration of Silicon Valley and this time, focusing on the platform’s more controversial legacy. While no official offers have been made, Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are reportedly circling other key roles in the film. Based on The Facebook Files, a series of investigative reports by Jeff Horwitz published in The Wall Street Journal in 2021, the sequel will delve into Facebook’s alleged damage to teen mental health and its amplification of misinformation, marking a dramatic shift from the origin story of the original film to a more damning chronicle of its societal impact. Strong, who became a critical darling for his role as Kendall Roy in HBO’s Succession, recently earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in The Apprentice. His upcoming slate includes playing Jon Favreau, Bruce Springsteen’s manager, in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. His film credits span from prestige dramas like Armageddon Time and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to commercial hits like The Gentlemen. Strong is also a celebrated stage actor, having won a Tony Award for his performance in Enemy of the People. The original The Social Network, released in 2010, became an instant cultural touchstone for its incisive portrayal of power, betrayal, and ambition in the early days of Facebook. With Sorkin returning to direct and a new, darker chapter of the tech giant’s legacy to explore, expectations for the sequel are already building.
