Prime Video has released the trailer and key art for Scarpetta, a new crime thriller based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta novels, confirming the series will premiere 11 March 2026 in more than 240 countries and territories. Developed and written by Liz Sarnoff, the show arrives after decades of anticipation surrounding the adaptation of the iconic forensic pathologist first introduced in 1990 and featured in books that have sold over 120 million copies worldwide.

Nicole Kidman leads the series as medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a determined investigator driven to give victims a voice while pursuing a serial killer and revisiting a case from nearly three decades earlier that may define or destroy her career. The story unfolds within modern forensic investigations but extends beyond crime scenes to explore the psychological toll on both investigators and perpetrators.

The narrative moves across two timelines following “Kay Scarpetta’s” (Nicole Kidman) journey from her beginnings as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late ’90s to her present-day return to her hometown, where she resumes her former position while investigating a grisly murder. As Scarpetta pursues justice, she must navigate complicated relationships, including the fraught dynamic with her sister “Dorothy Farinelli” (Jamie Lee Curtis), confront long-held professional and personal grudges, and face secrets that threaten to unravel everything she’s built.

Jamie Lee Curtis plays Dorothy Farinelli, while Bobby Cannavale appears as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley and Ariana DeBose as Lucy Farinelli Watson, Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece. The dual-timeline storyline also features Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale and Hunter Parrish portraying younger versions of the central characters.

The project is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures and P&S Projects. Sarnoff serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer, with Kidman, Curtis, Patricia Cornwell and Jason Blum among the executive producing team. David Gordon Green directed five episodes and also executive produces.

Blending forensic procedure with family drama and long-buried secrets, Scarpetta aims to bring one of crime fiction’s most enduring characters to television for the first time.
