The story of one of the most influential intelligence networks of the American Revolution is heading to the big screen. Bestselling historical nonfiction book George Washington’s Secret Six, written by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger, is being adapted as a feature film, with Christian Wallace attached to write the screenplay. Wallace, best known as the co-creator of Landman, will adapt the book into what is being envisioned as a large-scale historical espionage thriller centered on the legendary Culper Spy Ring, the covert intelligence network assembled by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Rather than focusing solely on military leaders and battlefield victories, the film will spotlight the ordinary men and women who risked their lives gathering intelligence under British occupation. The network included a diverse group of operatives, among them a Quaker merchant, a tavern owner, a young longshoreman, a reclusive Long Island bachelor, a coffee house proprietor and a mysterious female agent whose contributions played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the United States. The project is currently moving into its next phase, with filmmakers expected to begin searching for a director and cast. “With the 250th anniversary of American independence on the horizon, this feels like the perfect moment to shine a light on the unsung heroes of the Revolution,” shared Wallace, who is currently working on the script. “Secret Six is an epic story of quiet courage, sacrifice, and cunning espionage that reminds us that the war for independence wasn’t won solely on the battlefield, but also by ordinary citizens living under British occupation who risked everything for a cause greater than themselves,” he added. Kilmeade, who has long championed the story through his bestselling book, said the adaptation fulfills a personal ambition to bring the little-known heroes of the Revolution to a wider audience. “It’s always been my dream to bring George Washington’s Secret Six to the screen — to honor the brave men and women who risked everything for America’s freedom yet never received the recognition they deserved,” said Kilmeade. First published to widespread acclaim, George Washington’s Secret Six became a New York Times bestseller and has sold more than one million copies worldwide. The book chronicles how the Culper Spy Ring operated behind enemy lines, providing Washington with critical intelligence that helped alter the course of the war. The film adaptation is being produced by John Middleton through Middleton Media, alongside Rosanna Grace and Nicole Tabs through Serendipity Group Inc., and Sam Moazami through Moazami Pictures. Additional support comes from Sophie Barry, who will executive produce on behalf of Simple Dimple Entertainment, while Kilmeade will serve as a consulting producer on the project. With America’s 250th anniversary approaching, the adaptation arrives at a moment of renewed interest in the nation’s founding history, offering a cinematic look at the covert operation that helped secure independence and the individuals whose contributions have largely remained in the shadows of history.
